Petersen in the News

This record of new machine acquisitions since 1999 shows that Petersen Precision not only keeps up, but improves, its precision part manufacturing capabilities. Note the level of new machine tool installations over the years.

New Toolroom CNC Vertical Bed Milling Machine

The addition of this new CNC toolroom bed mill increases the size, capability, and tool output capacity of our well-equipped Toolroom.  With 40" x 20" x 23" travel lengths, larger pieces can be accomodated by this mill.   It is already a significant contributor to the Toolroom’s complete support of our production tooling requirements in fineblanking, grinding, lapping and CNC milling and turning.

Petersen Precision announces a major capacity increase in our CNC Milling Department with the addition of these three Mazak Vertical Machining Centers.  Two of these mills are Mazak VCN-410As and one is a pallet-changing VCN-510C.  This brings the current total of milling machines to 17, and amply demonstrates our policy of investment in faster, more productive and tight tolerance-holding machine tools.

New Production Creepfeed Grinder - 2006

On the first workday of the year, Petersen Precision received its new Blohm RT 1000 Creepfeed Grinder. This model is an especially efficient production grinder due to its twin chuck, rotary table configuration. One chuck is unloaded and reloaded while the other is being ground. This 80 HP continuous dress creepfeed grinder will add significantly to our capacity and tolerance holding capability in the production grinding arena.

Another New Mazak Horizontal Mill - 2005

Petersen Precision announces the installation of this new Mazak 4-axis horizontal machining center, complementing the PFH-4800 installed late last year. This new Mazak PFH‑4800 has an 80 tool magazine and a 15,000 RPM spindle.  It represents a significant increase in our production machining capacity.

New Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) - 2005

The latest addition to our inspection capabilities is the installation of a Zeiss Contura 700 CMM. This high-accuracy model features a scanning head for optimal reading of planes, contours and profiles, as well as the part feature measurements that CMMs are noted for. This unit is also equipped with programmed probe changing capability and the sophisticated Calypso software package. The measurement area is 700 x 1,000 x 600 mm.

New Software for Manufacturing - 2005

Petersen Precision has just installed SolidWorks CAD and Virtual Gibbs CAM software packages to enhance our design and programming capabilities. We are excited by the power of these tools for tool and fixture design, manufacturing process development, and programming.

Yet Another New Horizontal Mill - 2004

Petersen Precision announces the installation of another horizontal machining center in 2004. This new Mazak PFH-4800 is a 4-axis, 40 tool mill with 12,000 RPM spindle. It sits on a factory-spec pad for enhanced stability, and adds significant capacity to our precision machining facility.

Another New Niigata Horizontal Mill - 2004

We have had such good results in holding tight tolerances in high speed milling with the first Niigata SPN40 installed in 2003 that we bought another. Note the factory-spec pad it rests on to give it a stable base for top precision.

New CNC honing Machine - 2003

Petersen Precision announces the installation of a new CNC honing machine. This Sunnen Millenium ML5000D hone features in-process gaging and CNC control. It adds capability and production capacity to our precision ID processing.

New Production Wire EDM Machines - 2003

Two new Mitsubishi FA10P high accuracy, fast speed, fine wire EDM machines have been added to our production facility.

New Horizontal Machining Center - 2003

Petersen Precision announces the installation of a factory-new Niigata SPN40 horizontal machining center, furthering our continuing investment in state-of-the-art equipment.

  • 12,000 RPM 35 HP SPINDLE

  • 60 TOOLS TOOL CHANGER

New Team Members - 2003

Petersen Precision welcomes three new members to our line of professional manufacturers' representatives. In Southern California, Todd Palmquist and Charlene Lewis are heading up our sales efforts, and in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Arizona, Jim Schwisow leads the charge. These sales professionals have the technical knowledge to work with existing and prospective customers on their precision parts requirements. We are pleased to welcome them to the team.

Video TMM Tool Measuring System - 2002

A Parlec Parsetter 950 TMM optical tool measuring machine has been added to the CNC Milling and Turning Department. This highly capable tool setter adds precise control of cutting tool condition, configuration and position for enhanced efficiency in chip-making operations at Petersen.

Brand New Vertical Machining Centers - 2002

Two Matsuura RA-1X Twin Pallet Changer Vertical Machining Centers have been installed in our CNC Milling Department. These mills have 15,000 RPM spindles and 21" x 16" x 18" work areas. Their fast speeds and modern controls add significant capacity and capability to our machining operations.
Factory Fresh and Now On-Line at Petersen Precision - 2001

This new 250 ton fineblanking press is now in full operation at Petersen Precision's Redwood City plant.
Another 2001 arrival:

This 4-head sanding and brushing machine has just been installed at Petersen Precision and is doing an excellent job of deburring fineblanked and machined parts.
